This one-day workshop examines how AI participates in crisis-related sensemaking and decision-making, and considers the implications for designing interactive systems in high-stakes contexts.
Around the world, communities and institutions face a growing range of crises, from climate-related events and public health emergencies to geopolitical instability.
AI is already being deployed in crisis contexts around the world, from wildfire forecasting to humanitarian response. Yet its role in shaping how people interpret situations, communicate risk, and make decisions remains underexamined. This workshop brings a design lens to that gap.
We welcome researchers and practitioners working at the intersection of AI, crisis contexts, and design.
To register your interest, complete the short EOI form below. EOIs are assessed on a rolling basis and close on 6 June 2025 or once capacity is reached. We encourage early submission.
Accepted participants will give a 1-slide, 5-minute presentation at the start of the workshop. Activities are designed around participants' position statements, personalising discussions, supporting networking, and drawing on the diverse experiences everyone brings.
